Edith Rollins Szabo, 88, of Etna, NY passed way at Oak Hill Manor in Ithaca, NY on April 24, 2018. She
was born September 13, 1929 in Danby, NY; daughter of the late Hosie and Virgie Johnson Rollins.
Edie grew up in Danby and later Fall Creek. Edie retired from NCR. She had an affinity for creative
expression through her ceramics. She owned and operated Zabo Ceramics in Etna, NY which allowed
her to connect and inspire enthusiasts from around the world. Edie had a soft spot for all animals,
especially cats. She could also be seen feeding the birds and taking special care of the turkeys. Her
family would snow blow a path for her to feed them in the winter. She also enjoyed canning, cooking
and gardening. She especially loved working in the flowers and loved showy flowers. Ernie and Edie
enjoyed exploring the northeast, visiting family, and taking Swarthout tours.
In addition to her parents, Edie was predeceased by her husband; Ernest Szabo, sisters; V. Mildred Clark
and Adele Jividen, and former husband, Robert Dingler.
Edie is survived by her children: J Diane (Neil) Sherwood of Willseyville, NY; Gloria Varga of Lansing, NY;
Janice (Chet Brion) Knout of Freeville, NY; and Dixie (Jeremy Tyler) Mack of Jacksonville, FL.;
grandchildren: Kim Sherwood-Caso, Dana Sherwood, Teresa Harrison, Jeremey Knout, and Kara Amici;
great grandchildren: Seven Caso, Tenor Caso, Jeremey Knout Jr., Madison Knout, and Hannah Knout;
brother, Nick Rollins of Sayre, PA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from near and far.
Thank you to Hospicare and the staff at Oak Hill Manor. They were so fond of Edie and became part of
her family. There is a community cat named Shadow at Oak Hill Manor that did not leave her side; a
treasured comfort we are sure.
