Edith Egbert Bennett, 97, of 517 Savage Farm Dr. Ithaca, died Tuesday April 8, 2015 at Kendal at Ithaca. She was born on May 6, 1917 in Westfield, NJ and was the daughter of Henry Drew Egbert and Edith Cowperthwaite Egbert, She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Bennett. She lived in Westfield, NJ until 1963 when she moved to Ithaca.
Edith Known as Dede, is survived by her three children: Carole (Alan) Erickson of Carmel, IN, Barbara (Edward) Sessler of Hilton Head, SC. and Robert (Margaret) Bennett of N. Potomac, MD. In addition she has six grandchildren: Marc (Simone) Sessler, Michael (Liana) Erickson, Eric (Courtney) Sessler, Kimberly (Richard) Holdener, Peter (Katherine) Bennett and Scott (Leah) Bennett and ten great grandchildren: Amelia, Carmen, and Ander Erickson; Joshua and Alexa Holder; Owen, Charlie Luke and Colton Sessler and Patrick Bennett.
Dede was a 1935 graduate of Westfield High School, Westfield, NJ. She graduated from Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT in 1939 with a BA in American Literature.
Dede was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca, the Ithaca Garden Club, P.E.O. and the Pi Beta Phi sorority, She was active in the Ithaca Country Club and enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, reading, classical music and crossword puzzles.
The family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Kendal of Ithaca for the loving care and support they gave Dede.
Private graveside services will be held at the family plot in Westfield, NJ.
