Dr. Martin Ginsburg

November 19, 1933 — August 20, 2017

Martin A. Ginsburg, M.D., 83, died at his home in Ithaca, NY on Sunday August 20, 2017.

Born on November 19, 1933 in Newark, NJ, he attended Newark academy, A private Latin School,

and later received his bachelors of fine arts from Lehigh University where he majored in music.

After earning his doctorate from George Washington Medical, he practiced internal medicine in

Far Rockaway, NY until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965. He served as a Medical officer

in Okinawa for two and a half years.

Upon returning to civilian life in 1968, he moved his practice to Cedarhurst, NY, serving patients

until he retired in 2005.

Dr. Ginsburg moved to Ithaca in 2006 and immediately became a vital member of his new community in addition to volunteering at the Ithaca Free Clinic, he gave frequent lectures on music history at Lifelong and participated in the Ithaca

community Chores, where he was affectionately known as the "resident musicologist". Medicine was

his profession but music was his passion.

He is survived by his wife: Phyllis Rappaport and his other family members and many friends who will miss his stories,

his sense of humor and his compassion.

Funeral services were held Tuesday August 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Temple Beth-EL. Memorial donations in Dr. Ginsburg's memory

may be made to either the Ithaca Free Clinic or Temple Beth-EL. Bangs Funeral Home assisted the family
