Ithaca

Dorothy Ann Douglas Jordan, loving daughter, sister, wife and mother, age 89, passed away peacefully  in her sleep at Beechtree Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Ithaca, NY on February 12, 2023, after a short, courageous battle with metastatic cancer. She also suffered from dementia.

Dorothy is predeceased by her parents Howard and Stella (Malanowski) Douglas of Elmira, NY.  She is also predeceased by sisters, Dolores O'Leary (Paul) and Betty Strange (Rod), along with her brothers Richard Douglas and Robert Douglas. Also predeceased are her husband Norman Jordan Sr., (1997) and sons Norman Jordan Jr. (2018) and Michael Jordan (2019).

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Jean Molnar (John), sister-in-law Sally Douglas, daughter Cindee Sladich (Robert) of Ithaca, sons Richard (Karen) and Patrick (Debbie). She is survived by her grandchildren Matthew Jordan (Kim), Daniel Jordan, Rachael Jordan, Katie Jordan, Max Jordan, Stephanie MacDonald (Owen), Jennifer Blake (Jordan) and Mackenzie Jordan, and five great grandchildren. She also is survived by her former daughters-in-laws Allison Jordan (Norm), and Paula Jordan (Mike). She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She graduated from high school at Elmira Free Academy. She worked at Westinghouse in Horseheads, NY and met her husband Norm who was from Ithaca NY at Joycrest Skating Rink in Elmira, NY. They married on June 2, 1956, in Elmira and moved to Ithaca for a brief period, then to Elmira. Her husband’s career moved them to cities around Binghamton, NY and back to Elmira. The family moved to Ithaca in 1967, where she lived the rest of her life.

She dedicated her life to her family and stepped right in after marriage to become a full-time homemaker and loving mother. Being a mother to her five children was what she loved most in life. She was highly active in the lives of her daughter and four sons and all their various activities, in addition to her grandchildren’s.

She and her husband Norm traveled throughout the years to sporting activities and they especially loved being part of the Ithaca College Bomber football boosters and the travel that came with that. All four sons played for the Bombers. She loved to cook and bake. Her home was always open to friends, children’s friends and family throughout her life until she moved into assisted living at Brookdale in 2019 and then onto her temporary home at Beechtree in 2021. She enjoyed being around others at both places and engaging in activities.

Dorothy will always be remembered as a patient, kind and sweet woman. She went through challenging times, especially in her final years, but she endured them with strength and courage until the end.

The Jordan family wants to extend their sincere thanks to Beechtree for the exemplary care and kindness they showed to Dorothy.  She was blessed to have so many loving caregivers at Beechtree who treated her like family.

In keeping with Dorothy's wishes, there will be no service. Burial will be private.
