Donald G. Smith 90, of Newfield, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at his home. He was born October 26, 1929 to Harry and Theresa Smith in Ithaca, N.Y. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his siblings Carl and Robert Smith, Norma Williams, Jeanette Rowland and Lenora Hutanen and his stepson, Frank Tuttle. Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen "Teen" McGuire Tuttle Smith.
Don had lived most of his life in Newfield and attended Newfield Schools. Known as "Donnie" by his friends and family he led an active life. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea from 1950 to 1952 in the 2nd Division SS" Infantry. He was employed by Salino Electric for many years prior to his retirement and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 961, Newfield Lions Club and Newfield Rod and Gun Club.
Donnie was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, card player and horseshoe player. He and his friends would meet at a local tavern to share stories and companionship. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and displaying them at Newfield Old Home Days. His wife "Teen" shared in many of his activities.
Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, the service and reception scheduled for April 4, 2020 have been postponed. The new date and time will be posted when known.
