Donald H. Coon of Ithaca, NY passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the age of 86. He was a US Army reservist of the 885th Engineer Company and was an expert in arms. He worked at NYSEG for 37 years, retiring as a Line Foreman in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the Danby Pirates Club. He was a Sportsman Education Program Instructor teaching hunter safety. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He is known for his cowboy boots and hats. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly (Carman) Coon, daughter Kim (Viktor) Ruebel, grandson, Shawn Ruebel, sisters-in-law, Betty Nages and Roxie Carman, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Marie (Farrell) Coon, stepmother, Berta Coon, father and mother-in-law, Adam and Leona Carman, brother Francis “Butch” Coon, step sister, Bette Meade, step-brother Robert Williams, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Walter and Josephine (Carman) Hurst, Butch Carman, Walter and Shirley Carman, and Lyle Carman. He wasn’t one to tell us how he felt, but we all knew he loved us dearly as we loved him. He will never be forgotten by his family and friends.
Calling hours will be held at Bangs Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2024, between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warriors, SPCA of Tompkins County, or a charity of your choice in his name.
