David H. Rumsey

June 14, 1939 — July 17, 2016

David H. Rumsey, 77, of Ithaca, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late Harrison and Mildred Quinn Rumsey.

Dave was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired sheet metal worker. He had been a member of Sheet Metal Worker's Local #112 for over 30 years and had also been a passionate farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Newfield Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and for many years he had volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas time.

Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Harding Rumsey; his children, Rodney Rumsey, Judy (Russ) Maracle, Tom (Pam) Rumsey and Harrison Rumsey; his grandchildren, Ben, James, Thadd, Kindra, Amanda and William and his nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Phil (Kate) Rumsey and Roger Rumsey; his sister, Linda Rumsey and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Sandy Kastenhuber.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 2 pm at the West Hill Community Church with Pastor Bill Lower officiating. A celebration of Dave's life will be held immediately following the service at the VFW Post #961. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
