Daniel Matychak

Daniel L. Matychak, Sr., of Slaterville Road, born December 24, 1915 in Mildred, Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at home with family. He was the son of the late Myron and Mary Kelechowa Matychak, and was the widower of Mary Mostyn Matychak. Dan proudly served with the United States Army during World War II, and spent many years working as a heating and plumbing contractor. Dan and his wife Mary also owned and operated The Livery Restaurant. During his lifetime, among many other things, Dan enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, hunting, building things and playing music on the violin. Dan was beloved by family and friends, and was known for always being the first to lend a helping hand to friends in need. Dan will forever be remembered for his zest for life and for his unconditional love for his family. Dan is survived by his children, Daniel L. Matychak, Jr. (Tina), Mary Lubozynski (Dennis) and Thomas J. Matychak (Mary Beth). He was a loving "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren, Kelli Cartmill (Kevin), Daniel L. Matychak, III (Jill), Jennifer Murnane (Mark), Jaclyn Coghan (Jeff), Jeanna Lubozynski, Michael Matychak and Natalie Matychak, and his great grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary and Lilia Cartmill, Anna and Gabrielle Matychak and Molly, Caroline and William Coghan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Dan was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Joseph, Mildred Arents, Rosalie Yarosh and Martha Grant, and his brothers, Fred, Samuel, Basil and Andrew Matychak. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12 noon at the Bangs Funeral Home. Friends may call prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Slaterville Springs Volunteer Fire/Ambulance, P.O. Box 153, Slaterville Springs, New York, 14881-0153.
