Dale Sherman Grover

May 23, 1935 — June 1, 2013

Dale Sherman Grover, 78, of Newfield, NY passed away peacefully
at Hospicare in Ithaca from cancer, with his family by his side. Dale
was born May 23, 1935 in Sayre PA to Ruth and Sherman Grover. Dale
was pre-deceased by his parents, traveling companion Sandy Boyce and his two brothers, Bradley and Buckley.

Dale is survived by his loving companion, Laura Finlay of Massachusetts;
sister, Bonnie Northrup of Nevada; daughter Kim (Adam Slate) Grover of
Charlottesville VA; son, Michael (Sandy) Grover of Newfield and step-son David Cook of
Elmira. He is also survived by his three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Dale graduated from VanEtten High School in 1952 and
enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 where he served on the USS Tringa Submarine
Rescue Vessel. Following his discharge Dale began his career in law enforcement and retired from the Ithaca Police Department after
21 years of service. He drove charter bus for 8 ½ years for
Swarthout and Ferris in Ithaca making numerous friends with all his
trips. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, Masons/Eastern Star and
the Real and Deal Fishing Club to name a few. Dale enjoyed hunting,
fishing, shooting archery, watching college and pro-football. He
was an avid traveler and enjoyed traveling all over the United States.
Dale's sense of humor and wit will be sorely missed by all that knew
him.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 12 noon at the United Methodist Church in Newfield with calling hours from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
Committal services with military honors will be held at 3:00pm at Greensprings Natural Cemetery on Irish Hill Rd., Newfield. In lieu of flowers the family
asks that donations in Dale's honor be made to Hospicare. 172 King Rd.
Ithaca NY 14850. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.
