Cynthia Huntley Teel Vail Bouldin was a force to be reckoned with.
She was born on election day, November 4, 1924, in West Medford, Massachusetts, to Elbridge Teel II and Ethel "Dulcie" Montague Huntley Teel. She attended Andover Academy in Massachusetts and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Cynthia passed away quietly January 24, 2017, at age 93. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother E. Peter Teel, her first husband David Jameson Vail, and her son Derrick Huntley Vail.
She leaves behind her faithful husband of 57 years, David Ritchey Bouldin; daughters Belinda "Rachel" Vail Doran (Mike) of Colchester, VT; Martha Vail Spittal (Tom) of Wilmington, DE; Kate Bouldin Ivers (Doug) of Cary, NC; and Hope Bouldin-Currier (Mark) of E. Sandwich, MA; grandchildren Chris Spittal (Julianne), Joel Spittal (Katie), Marisa Spittal (Noah Palm), Nate Doran (Liz), Jon Doran (Maggie), Bria Ivers Alvarez (Nate), Marli Ivers, Clark Ivers, Aimee Ivers, Teele Currier, Austin Currier, and Elliott Currier; and great-grandchildren Joel Spittal, Faith Spittal, Elizabeth Spittal, Hugo Palm, Cheyenne Gailes, Zoe Doran, Sylvia Doran, and Diana Doran; nieces Anne Hoyt (Rick), Linda Aldrich (Jim), Sabrina DeWindt, and Brette Hampton, and nephew Tom Harvey (Audrey).
Cynthia was a woman of faith, active in the Episcopal Church wherever she lived. She was particularly proud of her part in the founding of Loaves & Fishes, a ministry which provides free meals, hospitality, companionship, and advocacy for those in need, when she was a member of the vestry at St. John's in Ithaca.
She loved to travel, and recalled driving down US Route 1 from Boston to Kissimmee Army Airfield with her father, a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Air Force, during World War II. She had the privilege of living in the Philippines, Brazil, and various US college towns while her husband, a professor of agronomy at Cornell University, was on sabbatical. Later they traveled to many countries as he was a consultant with the Rockefeller Foundation and World Bank, and on a variety of Elder Hostels.
Cynthia was intelligent and witty, adventurous, spirited, and had a flair for creating warm, lovely homes. She was strong-willed and opinionated, always elegant, and passed on many of those qualities to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves a large hole.
