Constance (Connie) B. McDowell, 61, of Ithaca, passed away unexpectedly from a heart condition on Thursday, March 31st. Connie was born on April 7th, 1954 in Hyannis, MA, where she was raised by ambitious parents, Roscoe and Florence McDowell, alongside three brothers. She attended UMass Amherst and went on to pursue a career in education, holding jobs in the financial aid and admissions offices at Dartmouth, Butler, Cornell, and Wells before becoming an educator in the Ithaca City School District. She began pursuing teacher certification at SUNY Cortland in the mid-90s while raising her two sons and worked at Boynton Middle School and Beverly J. Martin Elementary School in the late 90s and early 2000s. A longtime Ithaca resident, Connie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed. Her two sons, Charles R. Blake and Daniel J. Blake, survive Connie. Survivors also include two of her three brothers (Donald W. McDowell passed away in 2010) Reginald R. McDowell and Gerald T. McDowell, nephews James P. McDowell and Ross F. McDowell, and granddaughter Taylor L. Blake. Calling hours will be held from 12 to 2pm on Wednesday, April 6th, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 402 N. Aurora St. Ithaca, NY. A memorial service be held directly afterwards in the same location. A private burial service will take place Saturday, April 9th in her native Cape Cod. Bangs Funeral Home will be in Charge of arrangements
