Clarence "Chuck" Wallin, Jr.

January 8, 1923 — October 25, 2014

Clarence A. "Chuck" Wallin, Jr., 91, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Cayuga Ridge Nursing Facility with his loving wife, Sylvia at his side. He was born in Flint, MI, son of the late Clarence and Mary Fisher Wallin.

Chuck is survived by the love of his life, Sylvia Richer Wallin. Chuck and Sylvia were married 71 years ago, on October 29, 1943 in Elkton, MD. He is also survived by his dear friends, Dan and Nancy Opera and nieces and nephews.

Chuck and Sylvia lived in New York City and California before moving to Ithaca in the late 1950's. He had been in banking for many years. Chuck served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. One day when stationed in Hawaii he was playing centerfield in a pickup baseball game when an opposing player hit the ball over his head. Chuck ran the ball down and made an over the shoulder catch. Following the game that opposing player put his arm around Chuck and told him very few people could have made that catch. He then introduced himself, it was Joe DiMaggio. Chuck had been a Detroit Tigers fan growing up but that event and Sylvia converted him to being a fan of the NY Yankees.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at Frear Memorial Park on Monday, November 03, 2014 at 11 a.m.
