Cherie Cullen

March 20, 1947 — October 5, 2017

Cherie Cullen passed away peacefully at her home in Ithaca, NY, in the early morning hours of October 5, 2017 surrounded by family. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Geoff -- her "Geoffie" -- who passed away in 2015. She is survived by her sister, Patty Cullen Raine and her brother, Jim Cullen. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her honor to your favorite charity.

Cherie had an incandescent mind. The splendor of her intellect was manifest to all who knew her. Knowlege, unattainable to most, was no match for her impatient inquiry. The light of wisdom, mastered through her passionate study of the metaphysical and the aesthetic, shone through her peerless prism and found its
trajectory bended to a finer reality.

All who had the privilege of knowing her, knew well that a conversation with Cherie was often a journey, always on the wings of joy, into a fascinating world of ideas, into reminiscences of ancient knowlege --- and into the very mind of God.

Her focus was diamond sharp, governed by the light of a very old soul. Her exquisitely attuned nature also emerged over the decades through the mediums of paint, graphite, ink, cloth, trigonometry and the written word. Her oils, watercolors and drawings allowed us a glimpse of her inner complexity and struggle. Her "trig
afternoons" and geometric quiltings momentarily resolved aspects of the equation of existence itself. Her carefully wrought prose and poetry seemed to be uncanny transmissions from the Cosmos. Each expression invariably struck a quickening "lost chord" of recognition in the psyche of the perceiver.

Cherie often compared herself to a "Naiad" --- a delicate nymph in Greek mythos associated with bodies of fresh water. And so, for her, it was here in Ithaca that the streams, waterfalls, canals and singing stony brooks fulfilled that vision and feeling.

By her presence, she lifted you. Her spirit, like the waters of Ithaca, danced with the wondrous joy of being.
By her recognition, she broadened your aesthetic awareness. Beauty filled her with reverence.
By her insight, she gave you clarity. She would often mirror back to you your better angels.
By her kindness, she gave you peace. She delighted in you ... and called you
"sweetheart."
By her good cheer, she filled your grateful heart. There was nothing so sublime as the sound of her joyous laughter.

And, it is in our grateful hearts that she will forever remain. We will miss her
dearly.

We love you Cherie.
