Corbin, Charles W., Jr.Ithaca: Charles W. Corbin, Jr., 87, of Ithaca, NY, went home to be with Jesus on November 8, 2013. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. A native of New Rochelle, NY, Charlie was born to his late parents, Charles W. & Mary G. (Walch) Corbin, Sr., on October 25, 1926. He was the eldest son of ten children.
Charlie was a veteran of World War II. He married his beloved wife, the late Luella Smith Corbin, on September 16, 1950. He is survived by his loving daughter, Janet Marie Corbin (Scott) Petry; and two adoring grandsons, Gregory and Matthew Petry, all of Ithaca; his sister, Sue (Robert) Peterson of PA; and three brothers, Edwin A. Corbin, Sr. of Elmira, NY, Paul M. (Mary) Corbin of SC, and Arthur D. (Kathy) Corbin of NC; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his son, Gary R. (Carrie) Corbin and granddaughter, Samantha Corbin. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary (Glen) Jordan, and Carol (Robert) Lounsberry, and brothers, Herbert, Robert and David.
Charlie drove the Ithaca city bus, worked at Smith's Hardware where he was known by the nickname of "Red," and retired from Cornell University. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. He and Lou were avid square dancers for many years. They always took great pleasure in attending all of their grandsons' school events; they could often be found in the Immaculate Conception School gym cheering on the ICS Blue Knights basketball team. Charlie was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca. A memorial service will be the following day, Friday, November 15, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie's name to the Immaculate Conception Parish Basketball Program.
