Caryl Arsenault passed away suddenly on August 13th. She was predeceased by her parents Tanis and Roberta Smith, her granddaughter Sophie Kawejsza, and her stepsons Michael and Kevin Arsenault. Caryl is survived by her loving husband of 27 years David Arsenault, her son Tony Sidle, daughter Jenee (Rob) Kawejsza, stepchildren David (Pat) Arsenault, Melissa (Patrick) Kutka, John Arsenault, and grandchildren Tanis, Tony, Auriana, Samantha, Cecily, Christopher, Matthew, Cooper, Caleb and Riley.
Caryl was a jack-of-all trades having many careers. She began as an Army Medic in Fort Sill, OK, was a nurse in Ithaca, and an EMT for Bangs Ambulance and an EMT Instructor. In 1990 she graduated from Cornell's ILR School where she was President of the Women's ILR Caucus. After graduating from Cornell she went into business with David owning the popular Crooked Board Tavern for many years. Caryl spent a lifetime helping people, and it was only fitting that her most recent place of employment was assisting people through the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County in the 211 Referral Center.
If you know Caryl, you know she was a very colorful person. If you are able to attend her services please wear bright clothes in her memory. Any donations may be made to the charitable foundation created in her granddaughter's memory, Sophie's Giving Tree, at sophiesgivingtree.org.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 17th from 2 - 4 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home. A celebration of Caryl's life will be held following the calling hours at the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home, 2272 Dryden Rd. beginning at 5 pm. All are welcome to attend either or both and are encouraged to wear bright, casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations in Caryl's memory and to honor the memory of her granddaughter, Sophie Kawejsza, may be made to Sophie's Giving Tree, P O Box 116, Warners, NY 13164. www.sophiesgivingtree.org.
