Carolyn L. Wells
01/11/1946 - 03/30/2013
Carolyn Lee Wells was born to Earl and Emerald Jackson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the middle child of five. She graduated from the Philadelphia school district and later received a teaching degree from Temple University. In the early 1980s, she moved to Ithaca, New York to begin her teaching career. There, she met and married James C. Wells in 1984 and the two had one precious child, Ayanna in 1986. After the arrival of their daughter, Carolyn's number one profession was being a mother, but she also substitute taught kindergarten through 8th grade for 8 years in the Lansing, Dryden, Groton, and Southern Cayuga school districts. Her last job was with Lansing Instruments from which she retired in 2010.
Her hobbies included gardening and arts and crafts (sewing, painting, being creative). She always encouraged the young people in her life to be creative and to learn new things.
Her favorite charity was Emerald's Jewels, Inc., a nonprofit, youth empowerment organization whose goal is to enlighten, excite, and empower youth about life and its infinite possibilities. Carolyn tried to be as involved as she could by attending field trips, providing donations, and encouraging the children supported by this organization. The organization is named for her mother, Emerald, who always said that our children are precious jewels.
Carolyn was a wife, mother, educator, loved one, and friend. She inspired and empowered youth throughout her life and did it all with great love. She will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 6 from 5 pm to 7 pm at East Shore Christian Fellowship - 2049 East Shore Drive, Lansing, NY 14882.
