Professor Carole Ayres Bisogni passed away on November 15, 2014, at the age of 65, surrounded by her family.
Carole served on the Cornell faculty in the College of Human Ecology in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. In addition to her many contributions to research and teaching, Carole was a strong advocate for students in all her leadership roles at Cornell. Since 2007, Carole served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the college, with a strong commitment to high academic standards and a deep conviction that students should be at the center of the college's work.
Born in Jersey City, Carole grew up in New Jersey, spending childhood summers at Lake Bonaparte, New York. At age sixteen she matriculated at Cornell, beginning a lifelong engagement with the university. In 1976 Carole earned her doctorate in Foods, Nutrition, and Microbiology and joined the faculty. Carole's love of nature and the outdoors in the Finger Lakes region inspired her enjoyment of a wide range of activities and interests, including gardening, quilting, and kayaking.
Carole is survived by her husband, James Bisogni, her sons Adam and Jared, daughter-in-law Maura, grandchildren Eliza and Everett, sisters Pamela and Marilyn, and an extended network of family and friends.
Visitation hours will be held at Bangs Funeral Home, West Green Street, Ithaca on Wednesday, November 19, 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carole's memory to the Cancer Resource Center of Ithaca, NY.
