Longo, Carmella MaioCarmella (Carm) Maio Longo, 90, of Ithaca, New York, passed away after a short illness on April 14, 2014. Carm was born and raised in the close-knit Italian "Northside" neighborhood of Syracuse, NY on January 21, 1924. In 1953, on a blind date set up by friends Tina and Mac Capozzi, she met Rocco Longo with whom she would spend the next 60 years with.
Known for her Italian cookies, Carm was a kind and gentle soul; always there for those in need. Carm is survived by her husband Rocco; children, John Longo, Michael (Gina Amici) Longo; her grandson Christopher Ferris; son in law Paul Ferris; sisters in law Cynthia Maio and Mary Bordoni and dear friend Sister Rose Regina Smith. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Paula (Steve) Pete, Cynthia (Mike) Maiorino, Dan (Diane) Bordoni, Karen (Mark) Keller, Mary (RJ) Johnston, Yvonne (Tim) Swain, Joe (Betty) Longo, and Nick (Barb) Longo. She is predeceased by her parents John (Concetta) Maio; her brothers, Father Nicholas R. Maio and Vincent Maio; and her daughter Michele Longo Ferris. She is also predeceased by Joseph and Phyllis Longo and Ralph Bordoni.
The family would like to thank Joe, Robin and Stacy of Redmoon caregivers for the love and caring extended to mom.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bangs Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Father Joe Marcoux will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather in St. Catherine's Parish Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franziska Racker Center of Ithaca, NY.
