Bruce L. Anderson

Bruce Lawrence Anderson, 70, of Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully on June 26th 2017 at the Hospicare Residence of Ithaca, after a brief battle with cancer.

Bruce grew up on a dairy farm in Falconer, NY, born in 1946 to Lawrence and Fern (Swanstrom) Anderson, predeceasing him. After graduating from Falconer High School, Bruce attended Cornell University (BS), University of Uppsala (Fulbright Scholarship), Purdue University (MS), and University of California, Berkeley (PhD). A Cornell Emeritus Professor, Bruce was a passionate educator with research interests in the study of management, strategies and corporate governance of cooperatives and agribusinesses. He taught executive development programs around the world including in Australia, Bosnia, Denmark, Hungary, India, Ireland, the Philippines, Slovakia, Sudan, and Sweden.

Bruce is survived by his former spouse Gunilla (Sjoman); daughter Kristina (Samuel McNutt) Anderson and their son, Olson; son Philip (Janae) and their son Erik; and dog Max. He will be remembered as a proud father and grandfather, educator, academic advisor, Swede, and dog lover with a soft-spoken demeanor and dry sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Hospicare or to your educational institution of choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Anabel Taylor Hall, Cornell University. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
