Bernice Zupancic

January 1, 1937 — June 9, 2018

Bernice Meredith Zupancic died on Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was one of five children born to Leslie and Bernice
(Hayes) Chambers in New York City on January 1,1937. Bernice moved to Richford in 1955 where she attended and
graduated from Newark Valley High School.

Bernice worked for several years at Smith-Corona in Cortland. After marrying her beloved husband, John A. Zupancic
Sr., she became a stay at home wife and companion. Bernice moved to Titus Towers after John died, where she started
back into volunteer work after years of taking care of her mother, husband and sister-in-law. Following her father's
death (at Hospicare) she completed Hospicare training, was a speaker for HUD training and received awards from HUD,
Ithaca College and Cornell for her excellent work. Bernice was on a committee for the Ithaca-Tompkins County
Transportation Council, the Cayuga Medical Center Corporation, the Transportation Task Force, Gadabout, SPCA, and
4H. Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Service also honored her with an award for her volunteer efforts. Bernice loved her 6
year tenure as President of the Tenant Council of Titus Towers, where she was known for organizing cooking, craft and
computer classes.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James, John (Jack) and William Chambers, sister and best
friend, Patricia Dyess, brother in law James Dyess, Beloved husband John Zupancic Sr., his two sons, John and wife Ellie,
Bill and wife Dee, grandson Johnny Paul, sisters in law Mary Swica, Louise Uher, Joan and Rosalie Chambers and niece
Tricia (Earl) Damron.

Bernice is survived by her sister's children; James (Janet, one son) Dyess, William (Marion, one daughter) Dyess, Patricia
(Timothy, 4 children) Armstrong, Catherine (Scott, 2 sons) Nunnally, Lorelei (Renall, 1 daughter) Becker, Helen (Kevin, 2
children) English.

Her brother, Jack's, children; Donna (Bill, 2 daughters) Johnson, Debbie (Joe, 2 children) Ziomek, Christina (2 daughters)
Montanaro, James (1 son) Chambers, John (2 children)Chambers, and Dawn (Rich, 1 son) Tobel, Grandnieces of Trish
Damron, Sisters in law, Barbara (Gordon) Kuhl. Step-family, Marie Zupancic, Robin (James) Everidge, Linda (Bruce)
Georgia, Darlene (George) Hoffmier, and Christie Preston.

Bernice wished to thank her care staff for keeping her going all these years-Dr.'s; Adam Law and his staff, Lowell Garner,
and Anthony Sanito. Nurses; Christina Morse from CMC Pain Clinic, Tompkins County Health Department, Visiting Nurse
Service. Aides; Barbara Meal and Anita Vaughn, all of the staff from CMC and the ER department that kept her alive
more than once. Graveside services will be held Monday June 25, 2018 at 12:00 the Harford Mills Cemetery, in Harford NY.
Bangs Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
