Bernadine Ann Fauls passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Tuesday October 26th at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. Bernadine was born in Ithaca on August 28, 1931 to Catherine and Kenneth Fauls. She then lived all her 90 years within walking distance of her parish church, Immaculate Conception.
Bernadine was a devoted older sister to her siblings and their families; Calista (Cookie) and her husband Rudy Paolangeli; Thomas Fauls and his wife Donna; and Mary Ann Giglio (husband Santo, deceased.)
She was a thoughtful and caring aunt to niece and nephews and their families; Thomas Paolangeli and his wife Leslie; Daniel Paolangeli; Catherine Paolangeli and her husband Graham; Patrick Paolangeli and wife Patricia, and Timothy Paolangeli and his wife Robin, as well as many step, grand and great nieces and nephews.
Bernadine worked as secretary and administrative assistant for area schools, but never doubt how much she enjoyed retirement and the opportunity to read, watch CNN, and most importantly, spend time with her friends and family.
Bernadine made everyone feel welcome and special, from mathematicians to misfits. She had a warm, caring personality that quickly drew people in, and the intelligence and wit that made everyone want to be around her. She enjoyed nothing quite so much as gathering folks for a five o’clock glass of wine with cheese, crackers and good conversation, surrounded by carefully arranged flowers, candles and Nancy Maas’s watercolors.
Bernadine was proud of her Irish heritage, and religiously followed her mother’s advice to keep the faith and vote the party. (Catholic and Democratic, of course.)
While Bernadine had many loyal and caring people in her life, her family would like to express a special appreciation to some extraordinary friends who were so helpful to her over the years: Kathleen Boyd, Jud Kilgore, Kathleen Robinson, Susan Handsom, and Kerry Johnson, Paul Krantz, Cheryl Martak and Peggy and Arnon Greif.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 1st at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities.
