Beena Kulkowitz

Beena Kulkowitz, died peacefully on Saturday February 25th at home surrounded by her family at age 90. She is the daughter of Sara Rosenbaum and Sigmund Licht, and step-daughter of Isadore Lerner.

Beena was born April 21, 1926 (along with Queen Elizabeth) in Brooklyn NY. She is predeceased by her sister Sylvia and survived by daughters Sigrid and Susan, son Mark, daughter-in-law Pam, son-in-law Shaul, grandchildren Satya, Marta, Kyle, Tessa, Paul, Nadav and Kalil, great grandchildren Nora, Anders, Julia, Kaitlyn and Zac as well as her nieces and nephew Jerry, Fern and Robin.

Beena had many professions over the years from nursery school teacher, bus driver and cook to rehabilitation counselor. She served several terms as the President of the Resident Council.She has always been politically active in causes that promote peace and justice.

She lived a full and rewarding life filled with a large loving family and many friends. She was a avid card player, poetry writer, dancer, music lover and anything social, especially her daily coffee group. She was very involved and beloved at McGraw House, where she lived for the last 14 years.

She will be laid to rest at Greensprings Natural Cemetery in Newfield at noon Monday February 27th. A celebration of her life will be held following the funeral at 1:30 at McGraw House, South Geneva St. Ithaca.

Donations can be given in her name to Ithaca Hospicare, ACLU or the National Planned Parenthood. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
