Ithaca: Barbara Brock, 95, passed away at Sterling House of Ithaca on September 1, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Brock; parents, Frank and Margaret McCarthy; and brother, Francis McCarthy.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Seacord; brother, Roger McCarthy; nephews, Donald (Virginia) Seacord, Ronald (Ereign) Seacord, Thomas (Ellie) McCarthy, all of Ithaca, and Timothy McCarthy of Simsbury, CT. She will also be missed by great-nieces and nephews, Amy (Christopher) Jogis, Brian (Sue) Seacord, Sheree (John) Walshe, Correen (Reggie) Briggs, Samuel and Rachel McCarthy, Liam and Flynn McCarthy; great-great-nieces and nephews, Kimberly and James Jogis, John and Ciaran Walshe, Booker and Dashiel Briggs.
Barbara retired after 40 years in service to the United Way. She served on the Board of Directors for several organizations including: The Ithaca Women's Club, Ithaca Garden Club, City Federation of Women's Organizations and the Campfire Girls. She served as President of both the Ithaca Junior Guild and Zonta Club of Ithaca. In 1994, she was honored with the "Women Making History" award from the Ithaca Women's Club for making a significant contribution to advancing the awareness of women's accomplishments. She spent over a decade on the Board of Trustees for The Cayuga Medical Center and was very active in raising funds for the Ithaca Centennial Committee. With all her volunteer work and accomplishments, she continued to be a warm and loving aunt. We remember sharing many happy hours swimming at her lake house or joining her at Cornell hockey games.
There are no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on September 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or School.
