Athena (Marinos) Andritsakis

Athena Andritsakis, 85, of Clearwater, Florida passed away peacefully on October 10th, 2024 surrounded by her children.

Athena was born in Goritsa, Laconia, Greece in April of 1939 to the late Kyriakoulis and Stamatiki (Papageorge) Marinakos. Athena moved to the USA with her family in 1947. They settled in Port Allegany, PA where she spent her early childhood. Her family eventually moved to Ithaca, NY where she graduated from Ithaca High School in 1958. A year later she married Elias “Louie” Andritsakis with whom she had two children, Constantine and Demetri.

The family co-owned The State Diner and later the Cosmopolitan Restaurant near Cornell University. In 1970 they moved to Oswego, NY where they opened the popular Char-Pit Restaurant, which they operated until 1987. Athena was known for being caring and compassionate and for her unwavering love and support to her family, relatives, and especially her sons. She loved cooking and baking. From traditional Greek dishes to her fabulous biscotti, you could always find her in the kitchen.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Elias Andritsakis and her brother Pete K. Marinos. Athena is survived by her loving sons, Constantine and Demetri both of Clearwater, FL, and her brother Dino (Pam) Marinos.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, 120 W. Seneca St., Ithaca, NY. She will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:00 am -10:00 am on Thursday, October 24, 2024 prior to the funeral service at St. Catherine's Church.
