Arthur (Sam) L. Paul

Arthur (Sam) L. Paul, age 83 of Kane PA, formerly of Gouverneur NY, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Galeton PA and was son of the late Arthur and Iva Paul. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Betty Kjelgaard Paul, who passed away in 2023.

He is survived by his children, Kathy (Brian) McCandless of Stanfield NC and Sandy (Drew) Koch of Lansing, NY, step-children Micki (Dave) Jones of Coudersport, Leslee (Mike) Reese of Mars Hill, NC, Todd (Cheryl) Coole of Coudersport, and Matthew (Malou) Coole of Kenai, Alaska, grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Jim (Kelly) Paul of Allegany NY, sister Peg (Carson) Shutt of Galeton, nieces and nephews.

Throughout his adult life he worked as a butcher and a barber. Sam was a barber in Westfield PA and a butcher in Westfield at Bryant’s IGA and Chuck and Sam’s Meat Store. He was barber at Fort Drum Army military base in northern New York and a butcher at the P&C in Gouverneur NY.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RVing and woodworking.

A private service will be held at the family’s convenience.
