Arthur Joseph Salotti, Jr., 86, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his home. He was born in Seneca Falls, NY on August 17, 1930 the son of the late Arthur J. Salotti, Sr. and Margaret Caveney.
Art graduated from Ithaca High in June of 1948 and the following month he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a pistol sharpshooter and tank crewman and was one of the "Chosin Few" from the Chosin Reservoir Campaign of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on May 19, 1952. Following his discharge Art attended Ithaca College for one year and during that summer learned the ceramic tile trade from an Italian gentleman and that trade became his lifetime love. In September of 1955 he married Sherry Wray and they had 61 years together. He was a member of Laborer's Local 17 and Bricklayer's Local 3 and the Immaculate Conception Church. In 1993 Art was given the "gift of life", a transplant that would give him 23 more years with his beloved family.
In addition to his wife, Sherry, Art is survived by his children, Michael J. (Saundra) Salotti, Tari Salotti Black and Susan (Larry Jay) Iacovelli; his grandchildren, Sabrina (Kevin) Wheeler, Nick (Allison) Salotti, Bow (Kyle) Esparza, Michael John Toscano, Alec Iacovelli and Jacob and Joseph Black and great grandchildren, Paisley and Cam Wheeler and Charlotte Esparza. Art is also survived by his sister, June "Judy" Protts; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Sherry Wray and Faye and Joseph Velletri and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Art loved his family and was a warm, genuine man who would do anything for his friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 4 to 6 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to Hospicare, The Transplant Living Center in NYC, Alzheimer's Assoc. of CNY or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
