Ari van Tienhoven, Emeritus Professor of Animal Physiology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University died January 31, 2014 at home in the comfort of his family and many friends.
Born 22 April, 1922 in The Hague, The Netherlands, he came to the United States in 1947 and became a United States citizen in 1959. On March 14, 1950 he married Annie (Ans) van Haselen, who had arrived in the United States in December 1949. She predeceased Ari in 2005.
They leave behind three children, Richard Ari (Karen Hilding) of Warwick, RI and grandson, Christopher van Tienhoven, also of Warwick; Arainne J. Tepper (Douglas) of Penn Yan, NY and grandchildren Mark of Shanghai, China and Beth (Carrie Anderson) Tepper of Los Angeles, CA; Andrew Wijnand (Betty Lou Holley) and grandchildren, Reinan Lee (Megan Mosher), Kyle Davis and Cameron Ari of Mattydale, NY
Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the van Tienhoven travel fund can be sent to Cornell Library AD&D, 130 E. Seneca St., Ithaca, NY 14850. Please ask that they designate that their donation is for the : Ans van Tienhoven Endowment Fund at Mann Library either in the memo field or in an enclosed letter.
