Anna K. Carpenter

Anna R. Carpenter died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the age of
89. She was the daughter of Giacomo and Marianna Alario Costello. TOL (The Old
Lady) as she was affectionately known, wore many hats: bookkeeper, conservationist,
house builder and renovator, LPN at Tompkins County Hospital, gardener, baby sitter,
fabulous cook, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She always welcomed those who needed
a meal or a place to sleep, especially friends of her children.


She is survived by her children Mariann Carpenter (Anthony Taber), Paul Carpenter
(Melody Little), Rosanna Carpenter (Rodger Linton), Joseph Carpenter (Carrie
Kartman), her sister Rosalie Costello, and multiple nieces and nephews. She is pre-
deceased by sons Ralph Carpenter, Jr, and infant George Steven Carpenter, and brothers
Frank, Guy, and Joseph Costello.
Anna was Gram Cracker, Gram Banana, and Gran-Gran Granny to nine grandchildren
and eleven great-grandchildren.
She heard what she wanted to hear, she saw what she wanted to see, and said what she
meant.

Calling hours are Thursday, February 9, 2017 4PM to 6PM at Bangs Funeral home,
Ithaca. A funeral mass will be held at 10AM on Friday, February 10, 2017 at
Immaculate Conception Church, Geneva Street, Ithaca.
There will be a celebration of Anna's life in the Spring at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, and the Tompkins County SPCA,
and plant a tree in her honor.
