Andrew Ksenak

Andrew James Ksenak, 93, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Ithaca on February 27, 1920.

He was predeceasded by his parents, Joseph and Mary Warhol Ksenak; his wife of 65 years, Helen Boom Ksenak; his brother, Joseph Ksenak and sisters, Julia Wood, Mary Ksenak, Ann Jones and Helen MacDougall. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea McDermott (Robert) of Old Hickory, TN and Pamela Ksenak and Patti Ksenak of Ithaca; his grandsons, Christopher McDermott (Jennifer) of St. Louis, MO, Andrew McDermott of Nashville, TN and Michael Hamilton (Angela) of Ithaca and great grandsons, Wyatt, Dikota and Hanklin of Ithaca. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and longtime caregiver, Cathy Stillwel.

A lifelong resident of Ithaca, Andrew served in the U.S. Navy during WW II aboard Destroyers in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Andy, a sports enthusiast, was co-founder of the Ithaca Red Wings and was, along with other dad's, instrumental in bringing Cinderella Softball to Ithaca. He served as the head umpire during the leagues formative years and was also an avid bowler and baseball fan. He was a 45 year employee of Borg-Warner, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed trips to visit family wherever they were located and will always be remembered for his easygoing personality.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Frear Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the S.P.C.A.
