Amelia (Molly) D. Elmo passed away peacefully at home on August 26th surrounded her loving family. She is survived by her sister Mary Brown, her four sons Clint Sidle, Joe Sidle (Diane), Stephen Hile and Richard Hile (Jill), nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. All are heart-broken but she passed in a way deserving of the way she lived. We are grateful for her quick and peaceful transition and for the love she brought to all our lives.
Born in 1932 Molly was a lifelong resident of Ithaca. She was a homemaker first but she also enjoyed a successful 40 year career as an administrative assistant for Cornell Libraries, Tompkins County Human Resources and Tompkins County Mental Health Services. After retiring in 2001, she became an active volunteer for Catholic Charities, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lions Club, and the Greater Ithaca Activities Center.Molly was a devoted family member and friend. All who came to know her grew to love her, won over by her quiet kindness and humble generosity. She liked to read and travel, and spent much of her time helping and taking care of family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting and made scarves, sweaters, and afghans as simple gifts for others. She was indeed a gentle and giving spirit.
Calling hours on Friday, Sept 2nd from 10am-12pm, service at noon at Bangs Funeral Home followed by a wake to celebrate her life at 3pm in Dryden at 73 South St to which all are welcome. Instead of flowers the family asks for donations to Hospice and Catholic Charities.
