Alfred Vanderveer

Alfred VanDerveer, 80, longtime resident of Ithaca, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born on August 21, 1934 in New York City.

Alfred had worked at the cafeteria at Woolworth's for many years and later at the Heights Café. He always took great pride in his work. He loved gospel music and sports and always enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Unity House.

Alfred is survived by his nearly lifelong friend, Melvin Belchern; his friends, Dale and Cindy Aumick and his Unity House family and many friends in the Ithaca community.

A celebration of Alfred's life will be led by Rev. Tim Dean on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Burial at East Lawn Cemetery will be delayed until spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service beginning at 3 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Unity House, 15 Catherwood Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
