ITHACA – Alexander Mikhailichenko, PhD, 70, of Ithaca, passed away on August 14, 2018.
Born on August 3, 1948 in Russia, he was the son of the late Alexei and Lubov Mikhailichenko.
Alexander was a gifted physicist, who earned his PhD from the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (Novosibirsk, Russia), where he served as faculty for over 20 years.
In 1992, Dr. Mikhailichenko began his work for SLAC at Stanford University. He then went on to work for CERN in Genève, Switzerland. In February of 1995, he moved to Ithaca, NY, to work for the Department of Physics at Cornell.
Dr. Mikhailichenko has published more than 170 research papers during his career. He has contributed to many of the world’s particle physics programs. He enjoyed traveling and attending conferences around the world. He was multilingual and enjoyed reading numerous books. Dr. Mikhailichenko loved his life and more than anything, he cherished the time he shared with his family.
He survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Irina Mikhailichenko of Ithaca; his sons; Alexy Mikhailichenko of Ithaca and Andrew Mikhailichenko of Ithaca.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 184 Pleasant Grove Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850.
Arrangements are under the directions of Bangs Funeral Home, 209 West Green Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
