Alexander Robert Kerr

Alexander Robert Kerr, born November 1, 1986, in Ithaca, NY, passed unexpectedly June 30, 2023 in Newfield, NY. He was thirty-six years old.

He is survived by parents Michael H. Kerr of Newfield and Sigrid (and Jim) Connors of Groton; siblings Andrew, Sarah (Dan), and Jessica (Jason); step brothers James (Julie) and David Connors; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece, nephews and friends. His beloved dog Roscoe “Pooch,” the grandest dog and loyal friend for 19 years, went to his final rest in July.

Alex attended the Newfield and Groton Central Schools. He played the drums and had a garage band with his Groton buddies. In his senior year of high school Alex took flying lessons and earned a solo flight. He enjoyed his flying simulator ever since, including teaching Jessica to “fly” in 2023.

At an early age he would explore anything mechanical in his vicinity to see how it worked. He was a deep thinker, an avid reader, and a private and quiet person who gave generously whenever a friend needed help. He developed rich understandings of his topics of interest. He enjoyed documentaries, reading non-fiction, discussing economics, libertarian ideas, investigating cryptocurrency, and a love for New Hampshire. He enjoyed baking, especially pizza and sourdough bread.

Starting young, Alex camped alone in his family’s woods, including in the winter. He enjoyed working outside and walking with his dog Roscoe in forests and local parks.

Over the years he worked as a cook for several local restaurants, as a mechanic, a farm hand, and became a skilled arborist. His most recent employment was working on fiber optic internet installation.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, August 13 in the Stewart Park Small Pavilion at 1pm for family and friends to share their memories of Alexander’s life, which ended too soon.  Please follow this link the Facebook Event Link
