Adrienne Lampert

November 1, 1923 — October 3, 2013

Adrienne Lampert (nee Adrienne Diana Kochman) passed away on October 3, 2013. She was born on November 1, 1923 in NYC and spent her early years on the Lower East Side. Her family moved to Brooklyn where she attended Madison High School. She graduated from New York University, earned an MSW from Case Western University, certification from the New York Society of Freudian Psychoanalysts and William Alanson White Institute. She was the director/founder of the Guidance Center of Flatbush, where she mentored many therapists who served the greater Brooklyn community. She was a past President of the NY State Society of Clinical Social Workers and Psychotherapists and the International Conference for the Advancement of Private Practice of Clinical Social Work. She moved to Ithaca with her husband, Seymour Lampert in 2002. They were married for 56 years. He died shortly after they moved to Ithaca. She quickly got involved in aspects of mental health including opening a practice. She served on the Tompkins County Mental Health Subcommittee. She volunteered as a group leader for the Cancer Resource Center. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed water aerobics, was the member of several book clubs and, with new friends she met in Ithaca, attended local theatrical and music performances. She is survived by her three children; Rachel Lampert, Sara Lampert Hoover and Leonard Lampert, her brother Morton Kochman (Jeannie), her nieces and nephews Paul Kochman (Patty), Fran Kochman, Tedd Kochman (Randi), Scott Kochman (Harold), Larry Kochman (Norci), and Jerry Kochman. Her brother Joseph and wife Terry predeceased her. Friends delighted in her quick wit, her good story telling and her gentle guidance. Patients found her to be a comforting shoulder and a strong support. She loved spending time with her two sons-in-law Bruce Hoover and David Squires who she introduced to golf a decade ago. She boasted that not too many mothers-in-law get impromptu calls from their sons-in-law to play a round of golf. But it was the birth of her only grandchild, Montana Lampert Hoover that gave her the most nachas (joy). The family wishes to thank Dr. Hesson, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Bael and all the nurses in the oncology suite and 4th Floor of Cayuga Medical Center for caring for Adrienne. And, to Bridges Cornell Heights for providing home care with grace and understanding through this difficult time.
There will be graveside services at Lakeview Cemetery on Sunday, October 6 at 11:30am. Adrienne was a supporter of many causes. She championed the Kitchen Theatre Company, was a supporter of the SPCA and she always considered the Brooklyn Museum - "her museum". In lieu of flowers, if desired, gifts may be made in Adrienne's memory to those organizations or a charity of your choice. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
