Michael Arthur Sprague

May 28, 1939 — June 7, 2021

Michael A. Sprague 82,  the 2nd born of fraternal twins on May 28, 1939, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 7th, 2021; four months following the death of his twin sister, Maureen A. Morgan. Devoted son of the late Monica P. Mullins Sprague and William A. Sprague, Mike is predeceased by sisters, Patricia (Joe) Lazarony and Maureen (Paul) Morgan as well as brothers, Richard, David (Phyllis) and William (Diane) Sprague. A devout Catholic, Mike is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 61 years, Kathleen Gorman Sprague, sisters Sue (Paul) Katsampis of Colorado, and Mary (Christy Magnuson) Sprague of Washington state, sister-in-law Grace Sprague of Rochester, NY; children Jeffrey (Kathy) Sprague of Ellicott City, MD and Karen (Sheila Scheerer) Sprague of Wake Forest, NC. Granddaughter Mary Sprague of Ellicott City and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. Mike was proud to be one of eight siblings growing up in Ithaca, NY during the 40s and 50s. A lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast, he played in numerous baseball, softball, basketball, golf, and bowling leagues throughout his life. Mike served in the US Army's 'The Old Guard', 1st Battle Group, 3rd Infantry at Fort McNair in Washington DC before embarking on a 36 year career with the New York State Electric and Gas. A self made man, Mike started out in the mail room; found his way to the ground floor of early computer programming; ultimately ending his work career as a Sr. Analyst. A  computer guy long before the tech boom was even a thing! Mike had a keen memory and in-depth knowledge of family, friends, sports, and local history that will be greatly missed. His fun sense of humor and loving nature is forever embedded in our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the mass beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery.Donations may be made in Mike’s honor to the Sisters of Life.org.
