Judith Rose (Holmes) Horton

With heavy hearts and a strong Christian faith, we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Rose Horton of Newfield, NY on August 25, 2023. Judy was born on August 6, 1941.  She is a 4th generation Newfielder.  She graduated from Newfield schools in 1959.

Judy was a lady of great character whose compassion was matched by her love for family and friends. She touched many heads of hair and many lives through her 50 plus years as a hairdresser.

Besides family here are some things she was compassionate about: her Christian faith, talking on the phone, her love for Native Americans, singing and clowning (Cookie the Clown). She will be remembered as the fantastically whimsical lover of laughs, clean jokes, dirty jokes and in-between jokes. Beyond her sense of humor she shared freely her generosity, compassion, sensitivity, loyalty and her meticulous care of those she loved. As a result of her fellowship with so many Newfielders, she was once considered the “Mayor of Newfield”. She was also a life member of Eastern Stars.

She is predeceased by husbands Roy Trask, Jr., Charles Hunsinger and Frank Miller. She is also predeceased by siblings Roger, Dick, Carol, Dottie and Millie.

A special recognition to her sister-in-law Alta Ming and brother-in-law Ray Thornton.

Carrying on her legacy are husband Dale Horton, son Roy Trask Jr. (Ginny), son Randy Trask (Karen), daughter Marcie Beaton (Joel), and son Charles Hunsinger (Rachel) coupled with 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends.

Services are being handled by Bangs Funeral Home. Calling hours will be at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green St., Ithaca on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  Funeral will be at Danby Community Church on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 am with a reception in the Church’s Fellowship Hall to follow.  An interment service will follow at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, Main St., Newfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s name to Cayuga Medical Center, Bangs Ambulance Service, Cayuga Oncology, or to a charity of your own choice.
