Benjamin Edward Neilsen

Benjamin Edward Neilsen died in his sleep August 4, 2021.  He is survived by his daughter, Eleanor “Ellie”, his mother Paulette Rosa, sister Aslinn (Michael) Dusseljee, and their children Chyanne, and Noah.  His “Maine Family” Robert and Katlyn Worster and all their children, especially little Aubrie with whom he had a special bond; as well as his second mom Amy Pike and Faith Couch, Ellie’s mother. His Uncle Paul (Luanne) Rosa and family; His Aunts’ Christine (Michael and Ethan) Rosenfeld and Michaela (Marc and Alex) Purdy and Grandmother Lynne as well as aunts Nancy Neilsen and Deb Zahler and their families. He was predeceased by his father, Dave.

Ben grew up in Spencer NY, helping on his father’s farm and playing soccer, baseball and basketball in his youth.  He loved hunting and fishing and spent a lot of time in Maine fishing with his friend Robert and sent beautiful pictures of the nature and scenery to us back in NY.

Ben was outgoing, wicked smart, funny, and if you knew him you’d know he loved a good political argument amongst friends… He was also an avid gamer of course, which he tried unsuccessfully to teach me.

Ben struggled with his demons, and we really don’t know what happened, but in a way it doesn’t matter.  He was always striving to get better and stronger, and had just come back to NY for a fresh start with his beloved daughter Ellie.

We can take comfort in the fact that his last day on earth was an awesome one.  I got to see him at his best, laughing and playing with his daughter.  We cooked one of his favorite meals and went to bed looking forward to the new start ahead of us.  The loss is real, regardless of the cause…. Because we won’t have him anymore and we so wanted him with us.   Love you always, Mom
